Meet the founding members of the Armenian Shakespeare Association...

Jasmine Hasmik Seymour

Jasmine founded ASA in 2016, aiming to enhance Shakespeare studies in Armenia, whilst boosting cross-cultural artistic and academic collaboration. Jasmine has an MA from the University Paris-7,  her thesis was entitled The Merchant of Venice at the RSC. Her current PhD thesis investigates Shakespeare on the Armenian Stage 1860-1922, at Queen Mary University of London. She authored the entry Shakespeare in Armenia for Global Shakespeare Encyclopedia (Stanford University), has published several theatre reviews, including Othello at the Craiova Theatre Festival 2018 (directed by Suren Shahverdyan) and Romeo & Juliet at the Gdansk Shakespeare Theatre Festival 2019 (directed by Lusiné Yernjakyan) published by Cahiers Élisabéthains (2019 and 2021). She co-edited selected essays of ASA’s 2019 conference was published by Bazmavep (Venice 2021). Her chapter called Migrating with Migrants: Shakespeare and the Armenian Diaspora was published by Bloomsbury Arden Shakespeare (London 2021).

Armine Ghalachyan

Armine (PhD in Linguistics and Philology), is an Associate Professor in the department of Political Science, International Relations and Oriental Studies at the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University in Yerevan. She is an accredited translator and interpreter of Armenian, English, and Russian, and has been working as interpreter for UN, ICRC, USAid and other international organisations in Armenia.

Marina Hakobyan

Marina is an author, poet, and accountant, working in Great Britain as EMEA finance specialist. In 2018 she moved to Armenia with her family and is a founding member of several NGOs and charities. In Armenia she published two of her books: England through my eyes (prose) and Belated Dreams (poetry and short stories) under her pen name MariGlenn.

Anush Aslibekyan

 Anush, PhD, is currently an Assistant Professor at Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Cinema. She is a theatre critic, author and playwright. Among her publications are dramas, short stories, novellas as well as reviews and conference papers on Armenian contemporary theatre and dramaturgy. Anush is senior research fellow at the Arts Institute of the Academy of Sciences of RA and member of Writers Union of RA.
